Hurray - after a few hours struggling to get the white plastic plug out we have done it! Top tip - squeeze a small amount of washing up liquid in to the hole and pull the plug out with a pair of pliers. It's not easy, but I suppose it has to be so snug to prevent it from coming out when inflated. Good luck and happy hopping!! Kags

I've just bought a Space Hopper, Thomas and Friends, but it doesn't seem to have come with a plug/stopper... Anyone have any ideas where I can get one?

Hi,I've got a blue space hopper with'the great space hopper',written on it. I'm told its a 60's version and is quite collectable. Its in very good condition,I found it whilst clearing out someones shed a few years ago,it was destined for the skip. Is it worth anything and does anyone out there want to buy it? chers, Nick

Despite the statements of the BBC in "I Love The 1970s" and on their "I Love 1970s" website, the spacehopper did not debut in Britain in 1971.
The BBC's incorrect information has infected the Toy Retailers site (they replaced Klackers as THE craze of 1971 with the hopper) and Wikipedia, but it simply is not true.
I always doubted it, but browsing through my local newspaper archive recently - the Cambridge Evening News - which is freely available at the local library - I discovered an advertisement for the spacehopper from November 1969, describing the hopper as a "trend" -
http://space-hopper.blogspot.com/2006/08/1969-space-hopper-in-britain.html
The spacehopper was definitely available in the UK before the end of the 1960s.

The inflation of most hoppers tend to be the same. Remove the plug usually a white or yellow piece of solid plastic (big enough to prevent swallowing). Inflate with a pump. Replace plug.
